Sethu FC Set to Ignite Tilak Maidan in Their First-EverGoan Home Game.

Vasco, Goa, January 10, 2024, Sethu FC is on the verge of a historic moment as they prepare for their first home game at Tilak Maidan Stadium in Goa on January 11, 2024. Renowned as a pioneering force in Indian Women’s Football and a distinguished name in Tamil Nadu, Sethu FC has made a remarkable move by selecting Tilak Maidan as its home venue for the current season. This decision arises from the unavailability of grounds in Tamil Nadu, with the Khelo India Games scheduled to take place there. Despite this change in scenery, Sethu FC is enthusiastic about creating a home advantage at Tilak Maidan.

Renowned for its dynamic composition, stellar players, and a rich history of contributing to women’s football development in Tamil Nadu since its establishment in 2017, Sethu FC is now eager to captivate the hearts of Goan football enthusiasts by adopting Tilak Maidan as their new home.

Incorporating an international touch, Sethu FC proudly presents three exceptional foreign players, each bringing a unique skill set to elevate the team’s game. Anjila Tumbapo Subba, the captain of the Nepal National Team, not only brings leadership but also a wealth of experience to guide the team. Gita Rana, a formidable defender and regular starter for the Nepal National Team, fortifies the team’s defensive capabilities. Omita Adhiambo Bertha, a prolific striker from the Kenyan National Team, adds a dynamic edge to Sethu FC’s offensive lineup with her goal-scoring prowess.

This infusion of international talent complements the seasoned players from the Indian squad, including Priyanka Devi, Kajol D’Souza, Apurna Narzary, Purnima Kumari, and Lisham Babina Devi. The blend of these experienced internationals and emerging Indian talents, along with local Tamil Nadu players, reflects Sethu FC’s commitment to fostering a diverse and competitive environment on the field.

Coach Kanan Priolkar, a proud Goan himself, expressed his excitement, saying, “Sethu FC has been a driving force in Tamil Nadu, contributing significantly to the growth of women’s football. Now, as we embrace Goa as our new home, we are thrilled to connect with the passionate football fans here. Our journey continues, and we invite Goan football enthusiasts to join us in this exciting chapter at Tilak Maidan.”

Dr. Caitano Fernandes, President of the Goa Football Association, will inaugurate the match by ceremonially meeting the players for a welcome and handshake before kick-off, adding an extra touch of prestige to this historic event.

Sethu FC is set to face Sports Odisha in what promises to be a thrilling encounter on January 11, 2024, at 3:30 PM. Currently positioned in 4th place with 4 points from 3 games, Sethu FC aims to continue their momentum. Sports Odisha, at the bottom of the league table, is seeking their first win after playing 4 games, all lost, with 16 goals conceded.

KajolD’Souza, a Sethu FC player, stated in the pre-match press conference, “We need the three points, we are preparing well, we are confident. Goa is a perfect environment for football. Playing with the same set of players over the years helps build the connection, it helps me a lot in the game.”

The match promises excitement and skill as Sethu FC aims to capitalize on their home advantage. The Tilak Maidan Stadium offers free entry and is open to all, inviting fans and football enthusiasts to witness the thrilling encounter.
